stratocaster-about-page

Hi there! I’m Steve, the face (and fingers) behind NoisyNeck.com—a guitar blog for late starters, self-taught shredders, and anyone who believes it’s never too late to rock.

My Guitar Journey: A Late Start But No Looking Back

I didn’t pick up a guitar until [64], and at first, I thought I’d missed my chance. Everyone around me seemed to have been playing since they were kids, effortlessly nailing solos while I fumbled with basic chords. But then something clicked—I fell in love with the process, not just the result.

What started as a casual hobby quickly became an obsession. I spent hours practicing, studying theory, dissecting songs, and experimenting with tone. The more I learned, the more I realized: starting late didn’t hold me back—it gave me focus. I wasn’t just mimicking what I heard; I was truly understandingmusic.

Now, I can’t put the guitar down. Whether it’s blues, rock, metal, or fingerstyle, I’m always chasing that next breakthrough. And you know what? The struggle makes the success sweeter. Every new riff, scale, or technique I master feels like a victory—because I earned it.

Why I Started NoisyNeck

When I began learning, I noticed most guitar resources fell into two categories:

Overly simplistic (“Here’s ‘Smoke on the Water’—now you’re a guitarist!”)

Overwhelmingly technical (Instant theory overload for beginners)

I wanted a space where late starters like me could find clear, encouraging, and practical advice—without the ego or intimidation. NoisyNeck is my way of sharing what I’ve learned (and am still learning) so you can:

Progress faster with structured, frustration-free lessons

Stay motivated by focusing on why guitar is fun

Avoid the mistakes that slowed me down

Discover gear that actually helps (not just hype)

This isn’t a blog for prodigies—it’s for real people who love guitar and want to get better, one step at a time.

What You’ll Find Here

  • Beginner-Friendly Guides – No jargon, just actionable tips.

  • Practice Hacks – How to maximize progress, even with limited time.

  • Gear Reviews – Honest advice so you spend wisely.

  • Song Breakdowns – Learn the music you actually want to play.

  • Mindset & Motivation – Because sticking with guitar is half the battle.

  • Community Stories – Featuring other late starters who crushed their doubts.

My Philosophy on Learning Guitar

Consistency > Talent – 10 minutes daily beats a 4-hour binge once a month.

Play What You Love – If you’re not enjoying it, you’re doing it wrong.

Embrace the Suck – Every guitarist hits plateaus. Push through—it’s worth it.

There Are No Rules – Theory is a tool, not a prison. Bend it, break it, make it yours.

When I’m Not Playing Guitar…

You might find me:

  • Tinkering with pedals (I swear I need just one more…)

  • Digging through vinyl for hidden guitar gems

  • Writing terrible first drafts of songs that’ll (maybe) sound cool someday

  • Hiking or traveling—always with a travel guitar in tow
